77 Wainwright Dr, Walla Walla, WA
Jonathan M. Wainwright
Veterans Housing Facility
This project for the Department of Veterans Affairs includes the construction of a new senior veteran housing factility, located on the Jonathan M. Wainwright Memorial Medical Center campus. Spanning 2-stories and 85,000-sq ft, this project consists of 8 buildings, each with 10 private residential rooms and a common dining and living area. The community center offers a spacious meeting area that overlooks the Blue Mountains, various therapy and doctor's offices, barbershop/salon, chapel, and storage spaces as support.
Notably, the excavation process for this new facility uncovered several historical artifacts from the original Fort Walla Walla site, requiring careful handling by on-site archeologists. Overall, the goal to provide a comfortable and community-focused living space for retired veterans while keeping the area accessible by skilled nursing care, was carried through with exciting finds from the grounds' past.
